MetLife Australia launches inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan

MetLife Australia has marked National Reconciliation Week 2020 by launching its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The RAP aims to build understanding, demonstrate respect and promote reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Reflect RAP is a framework for how MetLife Australia will explore and understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their unique needs.

Vince Watt, MetLife Australia’s Chief Financial Officer and Chair of the MetLife RAP Working Group, commenting on the launch of the RAP said:

“This is an important step for us as an organisation – we have many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers, and we know we need to understand this community in order to serve them better.

“Our customers rely on us when the worst happens and as a customer focused, purpose driven organisation, we need to understand their unique needs. We also know that we have a responsibility to all the communities we serve.

“That’s why we have chosen to begin our journey towards reconciliation by learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with a Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).”

MetLife joins the growing list of organisations that have a RAP and are working to further reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The first RAP was launched in 2006 and today there are around 1200 organisations with a RAP, reaching around 2.7 million people within those organisations.
