Post-pandemic: What do employees want?

A focus on health and wellbeing, and a job with purpose, is what is going to make employers stand out for the workforce of the future, say experts at MetLife’s recent corporate partner event.

The panel discussion revolved around how employers can support the modern workforce, and develop new ways of working to prepare their people for the future.

“The pandemic has refocused the minds of employees,” said Mary Gabriel, Senior Client Relationship Manager, Corporate Distribution at MetLife. “It’s not about pay any more. Our recent Employee Benefits Trends report show that overwhelmingly employees want their employer to support their wellbeing and offer flexibility so they can cope with life’s challenges.

“There’s a great opportunity now for employers to step up and tap into these trends and offer new, innovative benefits and solutions to support their employees’ health and wellbeing.”

MetLife’s award-winning 360Health offering focuses on all that – and more. 360Health is MetLife’s end-to-end health solution that includes tools, resources and information for holistic health management, and is designed to help customers prevent and manage serious illnesses so they can live healthier for longer. 360Health takes a holistic approach by supporting customers across the entire health spectrum from prevention, early detection, return to health and ongoing care, as well as providing financial support.

Recently, 360Health partnered with virtual health provider Teladoc Health, expanding the program to include Mental Health Assist, Expert Medical Opinions, GP support, and Nutrition assessments, all delivered virtually.

Panellist PwC Head of People & Culture Catherine Walsh added: “The COVID pandemic has really highlighted that companies that put their employees’ health and wellbeing at the centre of what they do, are the ones that are coming out of this with a more resilient and productive workforce.

“Especially post-pandemic, a heightened focus on employee mental health and wellbeing will be critical not only for making hybrid working work, but for boosting engagement, connection and productivity.

“To attract and retain the best people, employers will also need to create incredible opportunities and experiences for their people. This means work that is meaningful and gives employees an opportunity to make a difference.”
