METLIFE IS TITLE SPONSOR OF BWF WORLD SUPERSERIES

Sydney students to learn health and team building skills from badminton’s best

MetLife, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, is delighted to be the global sponsor of the Badminton World Superseries. The Australian Badminton Open is a six-day tournament, offers total prize money of over $750,000, and is part of the BWF World Superseries.

The Australian Badminton Open will be held at Sydney Olympic Park from 20-25 June, and will see top performing athletes battle to secure their place in the next round.  Reigning Olympic champion Chen Long and five-time world champion Lin Dan will participate, along with last year’s Australian Open Women’s Singles champion Saina Nehwal and Men’s Singles champion Hans-Kristian Vittinghus who are both returning to defend their titles.

Inaugurated in 2007, the BWF World Superseries comprises 12 tournaments and one final, attracting the top 32 world-ranked players in singles and doubles. With its World Superseries title sponsorship of this spectacular international event since 2014, MetLife has shown continued dedication to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by fostering a healthy community globally.

MetLife Australia CEO Deanne Stewart commented “We are proud of our global partnership with the BWF. This partnership is a great opportunity for MetLife and BWF to leverage our shared vision on promoting health and wellness with sports being a key catalyst. We are excited to capture badminton’s spirit of wellbeing, achievement and dedication to success and share it with our customers, employees, agents, partners and the communities in which we operate.”

MetLife hosted “MetLife Health Day 2017” with students from Presbyterian Ladies’ College, Sydney

Building on the sponsorship, MetLife Australia hosted a Health Day with students from Presbyterian Ladies’ College in Sydney.  50 students attended the MetLife Health Day 2017 and participated in various sessions to learn more about health and lifestyle values, as well as teamwork and teambuilding skills. The participants received badminton lessons from professional coaches and players, and took away a Yonex badminton racquet as an event memento.

Local badminton specialist and world no. 20 women’s doubles player Gronya Somerville led the coaching session. Somerville will compete in the Australia Badminton Open with Setyana Mapasa in the women’s doubles category.

“I’m very passionate about badminton and I am happy that I am able to give back to the sport. The benefits of playing badminton go far beyond just physical health. It also teaches us intangible life values like confidence, integrity, succeeding together as a team and health and fitness awareness,” said Somerville.
