This year GLAM – Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Associates and Allies at MetLife is supporting the company’s LGBTQI+ community through a series of events.

GLAM will be kicking things off with activities around the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG). The SGLMG is one of the oldest continuously operating LGBTQI+ organisations in Australia. SGLMG was built on the foundations laid by early community activists who fought for LGBTQI+ rights in a time of widespread institutionalised oppression and discrimination. From these origins, SGLMG has evolved to include a strong focus on celebration while maintaining a commitment to social justice for LGBTQI+ communities.1

This year’s Mardi Gras theme is Fearless. Fearless does not mean having no fear – everyone experiences fear, it’s a part of who we are. Fearless means living our lives in a courageous way, taking action despite our fears. It can take immense courage to be your true self - especially at work. When we’re fearless and open up to our colleagues, we’re most likely to create success and fulfilment for ourselves and have the greatest impact on the people around us.

At MetLife, we understand the power of human difference. That's why Diversity and Inclusion is an essential part of our culture. By embracing diversity and cultivating an inclusive work environment, we believe our employees can bring their whole self to work.
