MetLife wraps up CSR month

MetLife Australia spent the month of October focused on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) helping its staff give back to the community, despite the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic to both the organisation and its employees.

As a purpose driven organisation focused on helping people build a confident future, every year MetLife takes the time to volunteer, making positive steps to improve the environment and support the community as a team.

While the global pandemic has impacted everyone’s ability to volunteer due to COVID-19 restrictions, we at MetLife have supported CSR month via a number of initiatives:

  • Habitat for Humanity – as a long-term partner, MetLife supports the Bushfire Recovery Program which is helping people rebuild their lives following the devastating bushfires at the beginning of the year.
  • Save the Children program – globally MetLife are providing support and encouragement to children in poverty or isolation as a result of COVID-19. By giving children hope and happiness through literature or illustration, we continue to brighten up the lives of our next generation.
  • Eco Challenge – MetLife are committed to making a positive impact on our environment and reducing our carbon footprint. During the 5th annual global MetLife Eco Challenge, MetLife Australia saved 24 kilograms of CO2, spent 694 minutes learning about environmental issues, consumed 247 meatless, vegan, organic or no waste meals, saved 3,747 litres of water and kept 470 plastic bottles, straws and containers out of landfill.

In addition, MetLife spent the month learning more about our partners and CSR efforts across the company so we can create positive change to the world.

Brad Brandenburg, Chief Risk Officer and sponsor of MetLife’s CSR Committee, reflecting on CSR Month, said: “MetLife is so engaged with volunteering and has a strong drive to contribute positively to the community. This mirrors our caring culture and desire to look after our customers. It has been inspiring to see our people step up and help others, even while they have been dealing with the challenges of working from home, being in lockdown and juggling increased personal responsibilities like home schooling. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and look forward to continuing to support the community through our CSR efforts.”
