Vince Watt, Acting Chief Executive Officer

Vince Watt joined MetLife in Australia as Chief Financial Officer in June 2014 and was appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer in May 2018. He has over 15 years' experience in the financial services sector and has a proven track record of leading large teams in transformational change programs and successfully executing business strategies. Vince is a Fellow of the Australian Society of CPA and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is a graduate of the University of Technology, Sydney.

Gary Bailison, Head of Individual Insurance

Gary Bailison is Head of Individual Insurance for MetLife in Australia. He is responsible for developing and driving MetLife's Individual product and pricing strategies in the Australian market. Gary has over 12 years' experience in financial services, including senior roles in product, pricing, strategy, and data analytics, and eight years' experience in management consulting. Gary holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting/Finance) degree.

Tim Batten, Chief Information Officer

Tim Batten was appointed Chief Information Officer of MetLife in Australia in July 2015. With over 25 years' experience in Information Technology, Tim possesses a wealth of knowledge as an experienced leader of technologically sophisticated businesses in Australia and internationally. Tim is responsible for promoting innovation by constantly being on the pulse of new technology trends and using them to fulfil customers' needs. He has an MBA from Melbourne Business School, a Bachelor of Engineering from Melbourne University, and a Masters in Engineering Science from Monash University.

Bradley Brandenburg, Chief Risk Officer

Brad Brandenburg is Chief Risk Officer at MetLife Australia. He is responsible for providing leadership in ensuring effective risk management and risk governance. Brad has extensive risk management, compliance and corporate strategy experience, having worked in Australia, Europe, and Asia for leading global organisations including BlackRock, Aviva, KPMG, and more recently AMP. Brad holds a Masters of Finance from Finsia, bachelor degrees in both economics and commerce from the University of Queensland, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA).

David Campbell, Chief Operating Officer 

David Campbell joined MetLife in Australia as Chief Operating Officer in September 2018. His team is responsible for ensuring that operational outcomes across the core capabilities of claims, underwriting and new business, policy operations, and customer service align with customer, fund member, and business partner expectations. David’s career spans over 20 years in commercial management and business design, transformation, and execution delivery in the financial services, energy and utilities, manufacturing, and consumer products sectors. David holds Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Technology, Sydney.

James Carey, Head of Group Insurance

James Carey was appointed Head of Group Insurance at MetLife in Australia in May 2016. He is responsible for the group product, pricing, and reinsurance activities as well as leading the regulatory and government affairs portfolio. James has over 15 years' experience in the financial services sector, including senior roles in distribution, product, and marketing within the life insurance industry. He also has experience in the financial advice industry.


Allyson Carlile, Head of People & Culture

Allyson Carlile is Head of People & Culture for MetLife in Australia, and is responsible for developing and executing human resources strategies aligned to the business' overall objectives. Allyson has over 15 years' HR experience in the financial services industry. She worked previously with NAB Asset Management, Westpac, BT Financial Group, and Barclays Global Investors. In addition to her broad HR generalist background, Allyson has extensive experience in organisational design, talent management, and leadership development. Allyson has a Bachelor of Business, Management Accounting from the University of Technology Sydney.

Alison Lim, Chief of Staff

Alison Lim joined MetLife in Australia as Chief of Staff in December 2014. She is a member of the Australian Leadership Team (ALT), responsible for supporting the CEO and ALT in planning and execution of strategic initiatives and organisational change. Alison is also responsible for the corporate communications function in Australia. Alison has over 15 years' experience in financial services across the wealth management value chain in a range of strategic, operational and business management functions. Her experience spans investment management, investment platforms, finance, technology and projects across diverse disciplines including unit pricing, governance, superannuation, strategy development and change management. Alison holds a Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Laws and a Masters of Business and Technology from the University of New South Wales, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Gerard McDermott, Chief Strategy and Customer Officer 

Gerard McDermott joined MetLife in Australia as Chief Strategy and Customer Officer in May 2018 and is responsible for leading the Strategy, Project Management Office, Customer, Digital, Marketing and Data functions. Gerard has over 20 years of experience in financial services including senior operational and business leadership roles and has a proven track record of leading successful business transformations, developing business strategies and building customer value propositions. He holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of New England and Northern Rivers  and is a Certified Practicing Accountant.


Andrew Plum, Chief Financial Officer 

Andrew Plum is the Chief Financial Officer at MetLife Australia and is responsible for Finance, Tax, Actuarial, Procurement and Corporate Services. Andrew has over 20 years experience in financial services with a track record of fostering strong relationships, driving strategy, managing risk and leading transformational change. Andrew is a Chartered Accountant (Australia & New Zealand), a graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors, holds a graduate Diploma in Applied Finance from FINSIA and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University.

Michael Rowe, Head of Legal

Michael Rowe was appointed Head of Legal for MetLife in Australia in 2013. He leads a team of lawyers who provide daily advice to the board and senior management. Michael's career has spanned over 25 years, and his areas of particular interest include creating successful group risk and retail partnerships, resolving complex disability complaints and law suits, and law reform. Michael holds a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Jurisprudence from the University of Western Australia.

Chesne Stafford, Chief Distribution Officer

Chesne Stafford was appointed Chief Distribution Officer of MetLife in Australia in January 2015. In this role Chesne is responsible for designing and implementing sales and retention strategies to achieve the ongoing growth of the Group, Retail and Direct lines of business. Chesne has over 15 years of experience in distribution and relationship management roles within wealth management with a strong track record of sales leadership. Chesne holds an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning.

Board Members

Geoff Brunsdon AM
Geoff Brunsdon is the Chairman of MetLife in Australia and is currently Chairman of APN Funds Management Ltd and Sims Metal Management Ltd. Until June 2009 he was Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking of Merrill Lynch International (Australia) Limited. Geoff was a member of the Australian Takeovers Panel between 2007 and April 2016 and was named a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 for his significant service to the finance, banking and insurance sectors, and to charitable organisations. He is a Patron of Redkite.

Denis Wilkinson
Denis Wilkinson was General Manager, Diversified Institutions at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority until his retirement in 2011. Denis is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of London and the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. Denis was appointed as a director of MetLife Australia in October 2012 and currently chairs both the MetLife Insurance Limited Audit and Risk Committees.

Brian Bissaker
Brian has over 30 years of experience in financial services having held senior positions as the CEO of Colonial First State and Virgin Money Australia and a Group Executive of the Bank of Queensland. He is currently a Director of MyState Limited, Monte Sant Angelo Mercy College and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Sydney Business School. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Brian was appointed as a director of Metlife Australia in August 2016.

Des Thomas
Des Thomas is Senior Vice-President and Chief Actuary, Asia with MetLife, responsible for leading the firm’s Asian actuarial functions. He has previously held senior actuarial, finance, and risk leadership positions with MetLife, including Vice-President and Treasurer, Asia and Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer, MetLife Japan. He has also held senior Asian finance leadership roles with AIG, Swiss Re, Towers Perrin, and Eagle Star Insurance. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in mathematics from Bristol University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK). He was appointed a board member of MetLife Australia in September 2018.
